Our passion brings history back to life. It is evident in our dedication and skill in restoring and reusing community landmarks. We receive a tremendous amount of joy and satisfaction by preserving the craftsmanship and beauty of these structures, yet modernizing them so they can be enjoyed today.
Jos. Schmitt & Sons’ crew has restored, renovated, and brought an adaptive reuse to numerous of old buildings throughout its history in business. One is the former J.W. Smith Building in downtown Sheboygan Falls. The architectural beauty of the building led the Wisconsin Main Street Program to adopt the building as its logo. Jos. Schmitt & Son President, Steven J. Schmitt, was inducted into the Wisconsin Main Street Program Hall of Fame for his historic preservation efforts. The restored building is now owned by the Bemis Manufacturing Company and used as a retail outlet store.
Other historic preservation projects include Brickner Woolen Mills Apartments, Balzer Wagon Works Apartments, Henry Jung Historic Apartments, and the Stefanie H. Weill Center.
